The project was funded by the Tasmanian Development Authority (TDA).
Dennis Cartledge was appointed project manager in February 1983. In May 1983, our two young children and I joined him, and I became the unofficial chronicler of the project, as well as assisting in researching and writing The Fine Timber Story.
The project was wound up in mid-1985 when the TDA refused to renew Fine Timbers’ funding, despite personal representation to the then Premier, Robin Gray, who was keen on opening up the whole North-west corner of the state to development and tourism.
